The Institute offers a certificate from the United Nations Graduate Certificate Program (UNGCP). The UNGCP offfers training in the United Nations system and its various agencies; with a particular emphasis on conflict resolution, humanitarian assistance, human rights and aid to developing countries. Through intensive courses and practical training, students acquire extensive training on the functioning of the various UN agencies. The certitificate can be incorporated into a Master's degree program in either the Social Sciences or Political Science.

CIDCM is a University program whose purpose is to provide research and training on development, conflict resolution, and politics. The Center publishes a newsletter Nations and Needs and sponsors workshops and seminars for academics and students on development and conflict resolution. The Center does not offer any graduate degrees, but graduate students enrolled in the University of Maryland's School of Public Affairs and the Department of Government and Politics may work with faculty in defining their own program of study.

CIDCM's primary aim is to promote a better understanding of contemporary peace and security issues among students, researchers, teachers and policy-makers. The Center puts out several punblications dealing with arms control, regional and international security, foreign policy, economic security, terrorism and defense strategy. The Center also sponsors regular lectures, seminars, and workshops on range of topics. Graduate students enrolled at Department of Government and Politics and other departments and at the School of Public Affairs may draw on the resources offered by the center in designing their program of study. CIDCM is home to Women In International Security (WIIS), a project devoted to enhancing the career prospects of women in the international security field through through seminars and postdoctoral fellowships.

The Government and Politics Department offers a unique combination of faculty resources for students interested in graduate study of the politics of the global environment. Umass/Boston offers a Graduate Certificate Program in Dispute Resolution sponsored by the Law Center of the College of Public and Community Service. The program is intended for people whose employment requires that they cope with conflict, and who feel that training as a negotiator, mediator or designer of conflict resolution mechanisms would be useful. Students completing the program can subsequently apply credits earned to a master's degree in Human Services or Sociology, upon admission to either of these UMass/Boston master's degree programs.

The Security Studies Program at MIT (DACS) is a graduate level research and educational program based at the Center for International Studies at MIT. The Program's teaching ties are primarily, though not exclusively, with MIT's Political Science Department, and courses offered emphasize grand strategy, technology, arms control, and bureaucratic politics issues. The SSP/DACS faculty includes natural scientist and engineers as well as social scientists. A special feature of the program is the integration of technical and political analyses in studies of international security problems. Faculty members advise or comment frequently on current policy problems, but the program's prime task is educating those who will be the next generation of scholars and practitioners in international security policy making. The Program's research and public service activities necessarily complement that effort. SSP/DACS supports the research work of graduate students, faculty and fellows, and sponsors seminars and conferences to bring the results of this work to the attention of academic and policy audiences.

Betty Lall and Lyn Fine are coordinating a committee of professors from more than a dozen colleges and universities in the New York City area interested in developing a multi-institution, interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution. As a center for multidisciplinary teaching and research on peace, justice, and violence within contemporary society, the IIPS offers an M.A. in Peace Studies with four concentrations designed for different vocational paths: "international peace and world order" for students seeking to become international civil servants, national security experts, or diplomats; "cultural, philosophical, and religious dimensions of peace and justice" for those interested in church-related administration and education; "conflict resolution and dispute settlement" for civil rights activists and labor relations specialists; and "social change for peace" for potential leaders in international voluntary organizations, political activists, and lobbyists. Students within the Ph.D. program of the University's Department of Government and International Studies can work with Institute fellows and focus on issues of peace and world order, and may receive Peace Studies hyphenated Ph.D.'s.

The interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Conflict Analysis and Peace Science focuses on the phenomenon of human conflict and provides the opportunity for students to approach its analysis from a wide range of perspectives.
