Welcome to the FiveCollege Program in
Peace and World Security Studies (PAWSS)
PAWSS is a multidisciplinary educational endeavor of
the Five College Consortium of Amherst
College, Hampshire College, Mount
Holyoke College, Smith College,
and the University
of Massachusetts at Amherst. It was established in 1983 to
foster student and faculty awareness of major international issues and
to promote undergraduate education in the peace and security field, broadly
defined. PAWSS
sponsors a wide variety of activities for students and faculty in the
Five College community and seeks to extend its outreach to scholars everywhere

The Director of PAWSS is Michael
Klare, the Five College
Professor of Peace and World Security Studies, based at Hampshire College
