The Fifth Annual Forum in Assistive Technology will bring together a diverse group of adaptive equipment designers, industry experts, people with disabilities, OTs, PTs, college students and faculty to encourage discussion of the assistive technology needs of people in developing areas of the world, and to share information and ideas. A panel discussion lead by John Williams (widely known for coining the term 'assistive technology') will include such innovators as: Ralf Hotchkiss, MacArthur Genius Award winner who has traveled the world to set up wheelchair-making facilities in developing nations through Whirlwind Wheelchair International, and David Werner, whose handbooks on critical healthcare and adaptive technology in developing areas of the world have been improving thousands of lives globally. Representatives from the United Nations, the World Institute on Disability, and the National Organization on Disability will speak about the growing need for assistive technology worldwide, and the current policies and initiatives that attempt to address those needs. Workshops and discussion groups will provide the small group formats in which participants can discuss worldwide efforts to harness creativity for the goal of improving human living conditions, and can learn how to get involved in locally-based efforts with global impact. The Student Invention Showcase, always a popular part of the forum, provides participants the opportunity to see the wide range of assistive technology and universal design projects invented and prototyped by students at LATDC. Except for a $5 registration fee to hold your place at the event, the conference is free to all participants. Registration deadline is April 16th. To receive registration materials send an email to lway@hampshire.edu or visit the conference website at http://ATforum.hampshire.edu. ArchiveHome | About Us | Contact Us | Help |
